When “One Magic Supplement” Isn’t Enough Anymore

I used to believe that a certain supplement was the end-all, cure-all. We’ll call it “XYZ” to keep it anonymous, but I thought it was the answer for just about everything.

For years, it seemed to work miracles—boosting health, restoring vitality, even supporting the body in ways that made it seem almost bulletproof. But something shifted. Whether the world changed, my body changed, or both, I noticed that after COVID, XYZ just wasn’t delivering the same results.

What really shocked me was hearing about people developing serious illnesses—yes, even conditions like advanced cell disorders (another way of saying cancer)—while taking XYZ. That was hard to wrap my head around because I’d personally known people who had overcome such illnesses while using it in the past. So why wasn’t it working as well anymore?

I don’t have a definitive answer. But I do know that our world post-COVID is different. I even know of a chiropractor who retired because his results weren’t what they used to be. He once had patients walk in with hearing loss and walk out with restored hearing after an adjustment. Post-COVID, those kinds of outcomes became rare, and he decided to hang up his practice.

What’s changed? My theory: our bodies are under more strain than ever before—chemical, biological, emotional stress—it all adds up. Our systems are working harder just to keep up.

For me, it got so bad that I was ready to accept a future where I could only be awake 6–12 hours a day, sleeping the other 12–18 hours, even at just 50 years old. I thought, “Well, maybe this is just my life now.”

Then I found root-cause functional medicine.

Since starting a reset protocol in March 2025, everything has changed. I’m awake 16 hours a day because I choose to get a solid 8 hours of sleep—not because my body forces me to crash. My energy now? Better than when I was a teenager.

And no, it wasn’t diet or exercise that flipped the switch—those are important, but they weren’t what got me back on my feet at the start. I went from being unable to drive for more than an hour without needing to rest… to now driving professionally 10–12 hours a day, 5–6 days a week. And in my downtime? I’m building my business with energy to spare.

Here’s what I’ve learned: not all functional medicine is created equal, and not every approach works for every person.
